If your idea of fun consists of creating a custom-scented, colored, glittered candle or matching trucker hats, Andi and Alex have you covered!
I sat down with this local sister duo to bring you the inside scoop on Happy Company and what makes this experience so fun and memorable.
Steph: Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
HCC: Well, we’re sisters so our vision and goal for Happy Company Candles has been in sync since day one. Our slogan has always been “Making the world a HAPPIER place”. We strive to bring a little happy to everyone. As sisters, we have always had different personalities but similar interests and styles! As strange as it sounds, our difference in personalities keeps us united. Alex is our creative director and Andi is our logistical organizer. We both bring ideas to the table and work together to bring those ideas to life. We strive to create and inspire others to create.
Steph: Speaking of inspire, what inspired you to start Happy Company Candles?
HCC: Happy Company Candles was inspired by our dad, Happy. He always made a point to find the positive in every situation. We thought everyone needed a little Happy in their life! We were both working as teachers when the COVID19 pandemic hit. We were new moms struggling to take care of our children at home while simultaneously trying to teach other people’s children from home. It was hard to find the Happy so we decided to create our own! We originally started making pre-made products out of Andi’s spare bedroom in Chattanooga. We realized others might enjoy our Happy little Hobby so we decided to use our teaching experience in a new way! We started teaching candle & apparel-making from our family farm in Dalton, GA and offering mobile pop-ups!
Steph: That’s how we met you! We both had booths at a Christmas Market. We were so impressed by your creative process; we knew we had to ask you about partnering. We had a big vision for the make-and-take experience at Good Fortune but could not figure out how to execute it while keeping it quiet and peaceful for the spa clients. What’s your favorite part about owning a small business?
HCC: The creative freedom! And we love partnering with other businesses. It’s fun to see everyone succeed.
Steph: We love that too! Linking arms and succeeding with others is so much better than individual success! Ok, last question, what makes your candle and apparel-making experience so epic?
HCC: The customization aspect is HUGE! People love creating unique items for themselves or loved ones! We have so many options to choose from, no two products will ever be the same unless you make them that way on purpose. I would say our other strength is the process. No matter the skill level, creating is therapeutic. We all have a creative side! Since we are teachers, we know how to tailor our experiences to different learning styles and therefore can bring out anyone's creativity! We provide people with the right tools, the right environment, and basic instructions. Some people enjoy the freedom to create independently while others enjoy that we are there to help when needed. Either way, everyone leaves HAPPY!
